The report
After a long journey the Dutch cadet team arrived in Guayaquil, Ecuador, on 16 August. Acclimatising, weighing in and training filled the first days before the World Cadet Championship got under way.
Klaas qualified for the main table in the up to 50 kg class. In the early rounds he showed good judo, with two wins, one of them by ippon. In the round of sixteen he faced a strong opponent from Asia.
That contest proved hard to break open. After a tense fight the duel ended with a minimal deficit. With a 7th place at the World Championship, Klaas closes the season on a high note and looks ahead to his next steps in the junior ranks.
